Katarina Witt first began to skate as early as age 5 years. As her natural talent began to show her admission was granted into a Karl-Marx-Stadt school that is geared towards youngsters with sporting talent. The coach Jutta was also in attendance. Witt was able to make her mark in 1982, after she was second in her first World Championships at Copenhagen. Following that, she started dominating the sport thanks to elegance and grace. Olympic success at the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the women's gold medal for figure skating in an extremely close contest. After four years, her win, she managed to take home an even tighter race. She didn't win the free-skating contest, but she did win gold on the basis of performances during the compulsory figure and short program. Witt was the first female to win in both male and female figure skating since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame Witt, who had achieved success in the world of film and television as an actress before returning to figure skating in 1994 to compete at Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. The team finished seventh, but she wowed the crowd despite not winning a medal. Witt received her induction to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame, 1995.
